SUNSHINE FROM POLYNESIA HOIKE:
JUNE 3 AND 4, SAVE THE DATES!

Our 2022 Ho'ike/Luau is finally approaching! This year it will be very different: we will have three shorter, smaller events, and food will be in box form, Hawaiian Plate Lunch style. The dates for the three performances are as follows: June 3, at 6:30pm. June 4, at 2pm and 6:30pm.

This will be the last Ho'ike that I am personally heading up. I will continue teaching, but Coco and I are planning to travel more, so fortunately we have great co-teachers here at SFP that are able to sub for us while we are away occasionally!

All the proceeds earned from this event will go directly to three organizations I have chosen to benefit Ukraine. They are:
Meest: www.facebook.com/MeestWA/
Direct Relief Foundation, Ukraine relief
Save the Children, Ukraine crisis

In the past, the Ho'ike has benefited SFP directly. We would use the funds for workshops, costuming, enrichment, scholarships and such. This year I needed to do something different. I am energized with this goal in mind!

Tickets are available on Brown Paper Tickets now! $20 each. First come first serve, festival seating. The link to purchase tickets is:

https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/5432338

The location is at the United Church of Christ in Magnolia Village. We thank them for allowing us to use their Pilgrim Hall three times in two days, for a very special affordable rate.

Mahalo to everyone signing up for duties and donations toward costs! Coco and I appreciate all of you so much.....

NEW BEGINNER CLASSES STARTING IN SEPTEMBER 2019

EXCITING NEWS!!! We plan to open up two new teen/adult beginner hula classes here at SFP, to be taught by our own Emily Keating. For all of you who may know someone who has talked about trying a class, here is their chance:

Starting in September, two times are being considered: TUESDAYS FROM 5:30PM-6:30PM, and SATURDAYS FROM 2-3PM. We ask for your help in passing the word....to friends, relatives, or maybe you are a parent of a dancer and have thought about trying it out? The first class is always free, with no obligation. (Tuition is still $40 per month, and $30 per month for a second class or second member of the same family)

NORTHWEST FOLKLIFE FEATURES SUNSHINE FROM POLYNESIA IN ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY LOGO

Northwest Folklife celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2021 with a commemorative logo, highlighting the people and the communities who make Northwest Folklife and all of our programs what it is today. This celebratory 50th logo was designed to feature the core of our organization and one that encompasses who we are—and that is YOU, our community.

The illustration on the ‘0’ is inspired by a photo taken at the 2016 Northwest Folklife Festival featuring a member of Sunshine From Polynesia, a hula performance company and dance school with a 30-year history in Seattle. This photo is of Ryan AbayAbay, and has a very special meaning to the group. more
